GO Train Service Started December 17th 2007Source Barrie Advance The first train rolled into Barrie in 1865, now 142 years later GO gets it going again. Hundred of happy commuters took the first trip on the new GO train service from the south end of Barrie on Monday 17th December. There are 4 trains to Union Station in the morning and 4 trains back. No stop is slated for Innisfil, as the town is not a partner in the federal-provincial-municipal agreement. Costs have been split three ways with Barrie paying the full municipal share, just over $8 million. The commuter train is not an express route as it stops at Bradford, East Gwillimbury, Newmarket, Aurora, King City, Maple - at Rutherford Road and at York University. Between York University and Union Station, the train does not stop. The trip is expected to take 90 minutes. The service operates Monday to Friday leaving Barrie at 5:43 a.m., 6:15 am., 6:45 a.m., and 7:15 a.m., with arrivals at Toronto ending at 8:45 a.m. Trains now leave Toronto at 4:10pm., 4:40 p.m., 5:17 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. Arrivals in Barrie are projected to occur at 5:45 p.m., 6:15 p.m., 6:55 p.m and 7:35 p.m. The cost for the round trip to Toronto and back is $20.60 UPDATE MORE ON THE GO FOR GO: GO Transit is already planning to improve the new station and add more parking. GO Transit has already exceeded it's anticipated rider projection with more riders using the service every day. GO is to tender documents for the upgrades.
